I use to take a lot of selfies but I'm no longer as good looking as I once was since I stopped I also realised I had a problem I was so warped in thoes days I probably got what I deserved right back to average looking

Is wanting attention that much really normal tho?

I believe there is an evolutionary string that causes most beings to crave attention; eg Dogs, Cats, Humans - they all love it.
Attention is one of the great factors in people's love language, along with gifts.

Even people who consider themselves thinkers and not emotional at all gladly take compliments.
So I think it's not only normal, but one of the central monetary systems in communication.

The last 17 years, the smart phone era boosted this tendency into the stratosphere.
I mean there are plenty of those who have no other thing in life to do then seeking attention on the net, it became literally their job as influencers.
